The promising performances which allow him, with only four races in the points, to take the ninth position in the standings just nine points shy of the top five.
Upon his arrival on the bumpy circuit of South Africa, Matthieu sets the tone! First free practice session:
Matthieu from very rapidly in the heart of the matter, slamming very
good times. He takes the fifth position of this session 1'42 .992 just 7
/ 10 to the best time.
First qualifying session:
The French Rider, continues to very good timed laps after laps. He is
rewarded displayed for the first time this season to rank second in the
timesheets (1'41.418) in 55 small mills leader Eugene Laverty.
Matthieu
"For my second participation in this track, I feel confortable. I could
make my mark quicky. I 'm satisfied of this first day, now he must stay
concentrated because nothing is won in advance. The competition is
sharpened... "
Second free practice session:
Matthieu meets some problems. For strategic reasons, it must start
riding with his second bike. Despite a fall, Matthieu picks up the
fourth time in 1'42 .305.
Second qualifying round:
Following to a fall, Mathieu doesn’t improve his time and take the 5th
position on the grid.
The Triumph rider has runned only two laps in the second qualifying
practices.
Following to a fall during the free practices, Matthieu falled in the
same place, fortunately without major injuries, but with severe pain in
the knee. Thanks to his good time in the first qualifying session (2nd
time), he positions at the very beginning of the second grid line only
six tenths from the pole and three thousandths from Pirro and Fujiwara
(3 and 4 ties in with the same lap time of 1'41 .415). Very good in
race, Matthieu has some difficulties during the tests and start. The
first problem has been set!

"Everyday is different! I am disappointed because I could not defend my
good times. Nevertheless, my morale is good and I will fight during the
race."
Warmup:
Matthieu took no risks.
Race:
Matthieu makes an average starting and was at the 9th position from the
first corner. Motivated to return to the front, it increases the pace,
but has a small technical problem in the second round which drop him to
12th place.
Matthieu knows that it will be very hard to pick up and win places. As
usually his morale and riding qualities help him to progress.
After the first third of the race, Matthieu succeeds in wining a place
and tries to come back on the front runners. At mid-race, Matthieu
succeeds to infiltrate the squad and passes the previous riders. It is
7th. He continued his efforts and secures the sixth place in the last
laps.
After this spectacular rise, Matthieu ended this race to a very nice
sixth place after fighting hard with his teammate David Salom . Matthieu
wins a place in the standings (9th) just nine points shy of the top
five.

"This was difficult race but I like it. It is true that with a better
start I could play the outposts, but the essential is my regularity. The
machine is powerful. The chemistry of the two eventually pay off and the
season is still long.
I'm satisfied I am able to demonstrate that I am fast in this category.
I have to find the good settings on the damn starts ...
I will enjoy these few short days of rest to recover from my mild
physical pain to be in the form for the next weekend for the Endurance
second round in Albacete.. "
